Dear Friends-

I am writing to update you on our progress, thank you for your assistance, and ask for your financial support.

2008 has been an incredible year for MoveSmart.org. When it began, this fledgling project was little more than a concept paper and a blog.

New U.S. Census Data Released for Medium Size Illinois Communities

From our friends at the Metro Chicago Information Center (MCIC):

The communities listed above have at least two things in common. One, they're all in Illinois and two, they all have new demographic, social, economic and housing data available for the first time since the 2000 decennial census!

The American Community Survey (ACS), conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, is a nationwide survey of U.S. households that provides vital data and information on a "rolling" basis, rather than every ten years.

Over the past few weeks there have been a number of new reports and studies released that those interested in integration, housing policy, and neighborhood development should pay special attention to:

  • "Soul of the Community" by the Knight Foundation / Gallup
    From the press release announcing the study and site: "A new Gallup study explores the link between economic growth and residents’ loyalty to and passion towards where they live. According to the “Soul of the Community” study, the qualities that make people love where they live include social offerings (such as entertainment venues and places to meet), openness (how welcoming a place is) and community aesthetics (such as physical beauty and green spaces)."
