Data on MoveSmart.org

The data on MoveSmart.org comes from a wide variety of sources. Below you'll see a list of each data source, a link to where we found it (or to the agency that provided it), and its "freshness". If you have any suggestions on additional data sets we should incorporate or better quality data sets for indicators we already have, please let us know. Please note that we are constantly attempting to source new data to visualize on MoveSmart.org; up next on our list are grocery stores, WalkScore, and crime data.

Diversity
Source: 2000 Census
Use: The 2000 Census data on race and ethnicity by zip code is used to sort zip codes based on whether you would add to the diversity of the geography or whether or not they are already diverse. We recognize that this data is nearly 10 years old and over that time there have been dramatic demographic changes, but it is the only free, public data set on race and ethnicity that is available by zip code; the American Community Survey data is only available by municipality. MoveSmart.org plans to begin using the 2010 Census data as soon as it is available and looks forward to the promised increases in frequency and expanded geography for the 2010 American Community Survey.
